“Our world is changing rapidly, blending together multimedia and interactive experiences. We are constantly expanding our body, organs and opportunities through new media, we always hasten the progress. But there is a space where time flows differently. This space is a space of stage. On the stage of the PLATFORM project we will not show the media for the sake of demonstrating advancements in technology – that would be as strange as an attempt to show off a leg or a ear. We are simply going to use our advanced capabilities of representation and perception to fulfill our experiences.” Anna Belyaeva, curator.
On May 21-28 as a part of the PLATFORM project an unprecedented media festival will take place at Vinzavod’s Tzekh Belogo (Moscow, Russia). Every day 2-3 choreographic, theatrical, musical and other experimental performances blending various approaches – from interactive video projections to biofeedback technology will be shown.
Also, during the festival a collection of animation works from Prix Ars Electronica Festival and CyberCinema programs (best independent creative shorts of Russian authors selected by CyberBrothers) will be screened.
The festival’s guest of honor will be Jeffrey Shaw – the founder of the ZKM Institute for Visual Media, Director of iCinema Research Centre at the University of New South Wales and, since 2009, Dean of School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.
The festival opening will be marked by an informance of Postgravityart group from Slovenia, which will last for 50 hours. With the help of video, dance, sound art and theater means artists for the first time Moscow will tell the public about fifty years battle for abstract theater. Dunja Zupancic, Micah Turshich and Dragan Zivadin cooperate with the Centre of Cosmonauts Training named after Yuri Gagarin at Russian’s Zvezdnyi Gorodok from 1998.
Russian media artist Dmitry Morozov aka :: vtol :: will held “Mind Escalation” – a stage experiment / experimental performance, working with the brain of an actor via the mind-controlled generator voltages, serving as a starting point for audiovisual transformations.
Hermes Zaygott together with Hans P.Holmanom (O.N.I.) and string octet performed by OPUS POUST will perform “Requiem for Steve Jobs” – a piece for an iPad with orchestra.
Meta-conceptual artists Sergey de Rocambole and Anna Nikolaeva will show The Ballet Of The Wood Shadows as a part of the NOOSPHERIC Diplomacy project, in which by means of video, laser technology and online broadcasts will be committed a global situational projection.
In total, in the festival will take part around 20 art groups, artists and media artists from different cities. All the works and performances will be shown for the first time in Moscow, and many were created specifically for the festival.
As a part of the festival activities Audiovisual Academy will present a panel discussion “New Media as a tool for social innovation – the need for transdisciplinary education.”
The panel will be headed by Jeffrey Shaw, the legendary Australian artist, researcher and a key figure in new media art since 1960s.
